Jane Carney Art :: Statement and Resumé

About the Artist

Jane Carney is presently working out of her studio in Evanston, Illinois and teaching studio art at Loyola Academy. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in painting from Saint Mary's College and her Masters Degree in Arts and Interdisciplinary Learning from Loyola University. She has taught art, dance and creative dramatics on the high school level and with adult education programs. She has worked as a graphic designer and art director, and is married and the mother of four.

"My interest is to communicate the passion of the process, the joy of the brush stroke, the physical experience of making the painting. I try to retain a playfulness and spontaneity to my work. I am interested in the relationships of space, line and colors. I love the figure and often use it as my starting point. The work sometimes retains a figurative quality but often moves towards abstraction. The styles inform each other. Presently I am exploring gestural landscapes of lines, shapes and colors.

"I continue to study and learn."
